Hannah Gadsby Surprises & Delights by Introducing Her New Wife!
Hannah Gadsby – one of Australia’s favourite lesbian comedians – has warmed our gay hearts by revealing she secretly tied the knot earlier this year and thanked the country for voting yes to same-sex marriage.
Hannah Gadsby, who hit the big time with her stand-up shows ‘Nanette’ and ‘Douglas’, introduced the world to her partner, Jenney Shamash, via Instagram and said the pair married in January.
Gadsby said she was “full of very positive feelings” and the couple were “very chuffed”.
“My heart felt thanks to everybody who voted for marriage equality.”
The 43-year-old shared a super sweet, no frills photo of the pair enjoying lavender ice cream and emphasised that “for the record, this is me gushing”.
Shamash worked as a producer on both ‘Douglas’ and ‘Nanette’ which took the world by storm for the way Gadsby challenged the standard format of stand-up comedy.
Shamash has also worked with a large number of theatre companies in New York.
Gadsby sang her praises in the announcement of the private nuptials.
“She is a producer extraordinaire. She is very funny and is really talented at reciting facts. It is a joy to behold.”
Gadsby, who grew up in rural Tasmania, is a purveyor of some of the funniest lesbian jokes around, particularly about how society perceives WLW and her struggle to find the right ‘brand’ of gay.
“For a long time I knew more facts about unicorns than lesbians,” she said in her show ‘Douglas’.
“I don’t think I’m very good at gay ….where do the quiet gays go?”
The innovative comedian has also opened up about her autism and ADHD diagnoses in her shows and vowed to not use self-deprecating humour anymore, citing its dangers given the minorities she represents.
