ICYMI: Little Gay Long Weekend @ The Wickham, Brisbane Was Wild
The long weekend has very sadly come to an end and we have one question to ask you: how did you spend it?
If you did anything – and we mean anything – other than go to The Wickham, then we don’t wanna hear a peep about it.
This weekend, The Wickham (aka the most fabulous pub and beer garden in the Valley) held their annual Little Gay Day. However, if you’ve spent any time with the rainbow community, you’d know that one day is never enough for us….hence, ‘Little Gay Day Long Weekend’.
From Friday the 2nd through to Sunday the 4th of October, The Wickham, Brisbane had a line-up of more than 35 performers, ready to entertain Brisbane’s gay scene all long weekend. What’s more? All of the proceeds raised were divvied out between six LGBTQIA+ charities – the Australian Transgender Support Association Qld, Brisbane Pride Festival, Diverse Voices, LGBTI Legal Service, Queensland Council for LGBTI Health, and Open Doors Youth Service Inc. – what a fab list, huh?
And like any good extended celebration, each night had its own theme – Friday paid homage to our trans brothers and sisters, Saturday was ‘A Big Drag Day’ for ‘Little Gay Day’ and Sunday was Little Gay Day’s Sunday Session.
On Friday, the Gay’s Guide team were front and centre to all of the queer action, and boy, were we absolutely blown away by the sheer amount of talent that we were lucky enough to witness…needless to say the performers did not disappoint on Saturday and Sunday either!
As sad as we are that the weekend has all but come to an end, we’re here to tell you that the fun times certainly don’t stop here.
In fact, The Wickham, Brisbane boasts a pretty great weekly rotation of LGBTIQ+ entertainment – if you find yourself there on Wednesday nights, you’ll be seeing Vollie & Friends, Brisbane’s favourite live talk show, Thursdays are of course trivia, and to finish the week off nicely, The Wickham is there for all your social weekend antics, oh and of course Sundays are home to the ever fabulous Wickham Sunday sessions.
